With Celtic boss, Ange Postecoglou going all out to strengthen this winter, clearly there will be players set to leave the club to balance out those that are incoming.

With rumours that Vasilis Barkas and Boli Bolingoli could be set to depart it was a different transfer story that caught the eye of the Celtic fans this week.

The surprising news [Sky Sports] that Udinese had expressed interest in Celtic defender Stephen Welsh certainly caught everyone off guard and as the club said this week that the Scotland u21 captain was going nowhere, the Celtic fans would have been worried that a young Scottish prospect could have his head turned by a club from the Serie A.

But it looks like that worry can now turn to relief after a late night tweet from transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano.

The Italian broke news last night that Udinese have entered talks to sign Arsenals Pablo Mari on loan.

The Spaniard joined The Gunners for £6m at the start of the season but has only made three appearances for the London club.

Should this move happen, it will effectively end the Italians interest in Welsh this window but they are said to be keeping tabs on the 21 year old.

Celtic could be set for more bids in the summer, but they should be looking for more than the £1.7m price quoted after Udinese’s initial report if they are of a mind to let him go.
