It’s fair to say that Celtic have had great success in the transfer market by raiding the J League.

Kyogo Furuhashi, Reo Hatate and Daizen Maeda have all proved their worth to the Celtic team and although opinion is split on Maeda, those opinions are at least formed using opinions based on his appearances on the pitch.

Maeda has made 44 appearances for Celtic, scoring 12 goals and creating 9 assists [Transfermarkt].

And before his excellent performance in the World Cup yesterday helping Japan to a 2-1 win over the four-time champions Germany, the Celtic fans have been left feeling frustrated with some of his performances for the club. Mainly his final ball and finishing.

But at least we have seen enough of him to come to that conclusion.

But Euan Robertson of Football Scotland has his sights on Yosuke Ideguchi.

Assessing Ange’s success rate in the Japanese market, Robertson said, “‘Guchi’ is almost the forgotten man at Parkhead.

“He arrived in the same window as Hatate and Maeda but the midfielder has struggled to make an impact.

“Ideguchi picked up a knock after a crunching tackle against Alloa last season and he’s barely been seen since.

“He’s yet to make a competitive appearance this season and his display against Sydney FC in the Super Cup highlighted why he’s not been in Postecoglou’s plans.

“And it’s difficult to see how that will change anytime soon given Celtic’s quality options in midfield.”

Extremely unfair. After just one appearance for the club, against Alloa last season in the cup, Ideguchi suffered a serious injury that has kept him out the Celtic side.

The form of Callum McGregor, Reo Hatate and Matt O’Riley has meant that Ideguchi has had to, rightly, bide his time to get back into the side and to judge him on a friendly appearance where a lot of the side where under par is, as I said, extremely unfair.

Let’s wait and see if Ideguchi gets the chance to make his mark on the side.

And even if Celtic decide to cut our losses and let Ideguchi go, it won’t be because he has ‘failed’. It will be because this Celtic side are so strong and dominant, breaking into that midfield was always nigh on impossible.

If you know your history. How many questions can you get right on this Celtic quiz?

Daily Football Record Scotland….hardly surprising they’d come iut with this sort of garbage. As you say we’ve seen little of Idegucho but even if he isn’t as good as Kyogo or Reo he’s probably still superior to 99% of the players of Euan “oranges are my favourite fruit” Ca-moron….
