International duty is time of the season that most Celtic fans dislike.

To be fair, I don’t think this opinion is based solely on Celtic fans, I think all club football fans dislike it for fear of injury to any of their top players.

Celtic suffered that last season when Kyogo was laid low with an injury on international duty and it has resurfaced again after Carl Starfelt’s injury after appearing for Sweden last week.

And this is where Celtic fans will agree with Mark Guidi’s assessment that our captain, should be rested in tonight’s game against Armenia.

Speaking on Go Radio, Guidi said, “I’m thinking maybe, McTominay in the engine room with Gilmour.

“These players can can adapt and you’re just thinking about freshness.

“Yeah it would be a big call to leave Callum McGregor out, of course, because he’s one of our best players.

“I just think there might be a big team selection with one eye on Saturday.

“He’s going to Dublin which is going to be a lot more difficult than Hampden, so that’s just my my feeling on it.

“I just think a bit of freshness in that engine room.

“I’m not saying that John McGinn or Callum McGregor are being dropped, I don’t mean it like that at all, but just that freshness with one eye on Saturday.”

That is certainly an argument all Celtic fans can get on board with.

McGregor played 52 club games for Celtic last season and 49 the season before.

He is one of our mainstays. He loves pulling on those Hoops, so much so, even a broken cheekbone couldn’t stop him last season.

Here’s hoping Guidi’s prediction comes true.

Up Next: Gareth Bale linked to Celtic again. It’s time to stop this!
