£2.7m-rated international midfielder won’t be joining Celtic this January

|

Celtic have rubbished reports that we’re set to move for international midfielder Wil Trapp, as reported by The Daily Record (08/01 Live Blog, 14:37).

The Scotsman had reported earlier on Tuesday that he was a potential transfer target this January, with his long spell at Major League Soccer side Columbus Crew coming to an end.

However, it appears our January priorities remain in defence after making a number of key attacking acquisitions in the first few days of this month’s transfer window.

Trapp, rated as worth £2.7m by Transfermarkt, has made over 175 appearances for Columbus Crew, also winning 11 caps with the United States national team.

Celtic though are well stocked in the midfield area, with Callum McGregor, Ryan Christie, Scott Brown and Olivier Ntcham all more than capable of excelling at Scottish Premiership level.

As a budget signing it may have made some sense but I’d be a bit worried if we go ahead and invest in central midfielders before addressing the glaring problems at right-back and the looming absence of talent in the centre-back area.
