In an attempt to consolidate their domestic dominance in Scotland, Celtic are widely expected to augment their squad over the course of future weeks. Despite failing to reach his full potential last season, Manchester City’s Patrick Roberts could be available for the Scottish champions in the transfer market. Should Rodgers press ahead with a move for the talented 21-year-old?

According to the Daily Mirror, as cited by HITC, Leicester City have dropped their alleged interest in Manchester City’s Patrick Roberts, allowing Celtic the opportunity to sign the promising winger. Of course, the Englishman is a familiar face to Celtic supporters, having spent the last two-and-a-half years with the Bhoys, and it appears that there is renewed optimism regarding a prospective deal for the former Fulham player.

If Celtic have the opportunity to sign the accomplished 21-year-old, they should grasp that chance with open hands. While failing to display the full extent of his qualities last season, Patrick Roberts has demonstrated his qualities as a competent player during his time with Celtic.  He has attained 82 appearances for the Scottish champions, amassing a respectable total of 18 goals.

One of Roberts’ primary strengths is his versatility and adaptability, the English winger can operate efficiently on either wing, or he’s accomplished when positioned centrally as an attacking midfielder.

In addition to his flexibility, Roberts is highly regarded for his pace, his trickery and his dynamism. While one could argue that he needs to display greater ruthlessness in the final third, there is no denying that he is an exceedingly talented player.

At the age of 21, Roberts is a player who’s endowed with considerable potential and has sufficient time to continue to develop, improve and prosper. He would be an excellent permanent addition to Brendan Rodgers’ side.
