£3.6m-rated powerhouse could be on his way to Celtic this January

|

Porto defender Chancel Mbemba is set to be used as a makeweight in a potential deal for Celtic midfielder Olivier Ntcham, according to The Scottish Sun.

The Portuguese outfit are said be interested in a £14m move for the Frenchman, and are willing to use a former Brendan Rodgers target to help get the deal over the line, according to the paper.

Mbemba joined Porto from Newcastle United during the summer transfer window but has made just two league appearances and could be given regular first-team action at Celtic Park.

Rodgers had wanted to bring the 24-year-old to Glasgow before his switch to Portugal and the player could end up being a long-term replacement for Dedryck Boyata, who is expected to leave the club at the end of the season.

Rated at £3.6m by Transfermarkt, Mbemba has good experience for his age having won 45 international caps with DR Congo and played through two UEFA Champions League campaigns with Anderlecht.

The Hoops badly need defenders and with Ntcham losing a bit of form over the last six months, this could be seen as the perfect deal to get a bit of cash in the doors and a player that solves a first-team problem.

Reported swap deals have rarely come off in our transfer history, but this one seems to make sense.
