Dedryck Boyata looks to be staying at Celtic this summer but plenty of supporters would have preferred he made his move to England on Thursday.

Outlets such as The Evening Standard reported on Wednesday that Celtic had rejected a £9m bid for the player from Fulham and while Brendan Rodgers didn’t discuss figures, he did confirm yesterday that there was interest.

Clearly the Belgian is important to the Celtic first team and without an imminent replacement there could have been disruption in the short-term, but with less than a year left on his contract and apparently little chance of him signing a new deal, perhaps accepting the money would have been the best move.

It sounds silly to say considering everyone wants the defence to be strengthened, but ideally the club should have had his replacement at least line up to sign, if not already in the squad.

If he doesn’t want to stay, then missing out on a transfer fee for the player could be a big mistake. With the English transfer window now shut, it’ll be difficult to receive an offer as good as the one from Fulham.

These fans took to Twitter yesterday to share their thoughts on him staying at the Hoops for now…

Do you think Celtic should have accepted the offer from Fulham for Dedryck Boyata? Let us know in the comments…

  • Yes should have took money. Its not looking good at CP..BR not happy the board have failed him, they could have got mcginn weeks ago & we mock the other clubs board at least they are spending we have spent nothing SA & VVD covers eddies fee with 5m change! DD & Co are a disgrace BR will wak why do you think lenny signed gagging order?

  • To be honest while I agree with most of the comments, what’s the point in selling Boyata when at present Rodgers knows the board will then not give him the money to replace him. Those who do not learn from their mistakes are doomed to repeat them. This is our board in a nutshell!

  • Iv got celtic running through my vains and iv aways supported them through thick N thin but this celtic board are only in it for the money now it’s time Des and the rest need to step down now there making a team like celtic fall back to the era b4 Fergus mccann help us out we are the laughing Stock of Scottish football time for changes in the back ground a disgraced celtic fan HH
