Dedryck Boyata looks to be staying at Celtic this summer but plenty of supporters would have preferred he made his move to England on Thursday.
Outlets such as The Evening Standard reported on Wednesday that Celtic had rejected a £9m bid for the player from Fulham and while Brendan Rodgers didn’t discuss figures, he did confirm yesterday that there was interest.
Clearly the Belgian is important to the Celtic first team and without an imminent replacement there could have been disruption in the short-term, but with less than a year left on his contract and apparently little chance of him signing a new deal, perhaps accepting the money would have been the best move.
It sounds silly to say considering everyone wants the defence to be strengthened, but ideally the club should have had his replacement at least line up to sign, if not already in the squad.
If he doesn’t want to stay, then missing out on a transfer fee for the player could be a big mistake. With the English transfer window now shut, it’ll be difficult to receive an offer as good as the one from Fulham.
These fans took to Twitter yesterday to share their thoughts on him staying at the Hoops for now…
There's no contradiction in thinking Celtic should have recruited a centre back and believing Boyata should have been sold this window.

I think it’s crazy to not take the fee. Tbh I don’t know if it was offered as if it was it should have been taken without question.
Something doesn’t sit right.

£9m for Boyata? I’d have taken their arm off. Don’t mind if he signs a new deal but more likely he’ll play on Tuesday then head to Italy.

Feel like we are making the same mistakes over & over again regarding the strategy of buying & selling players

boyata for 9-12 million not being sold is a disgrace, McGinn not being bought too is not good enough.

Bingo. Sell Boyata for an inflated figure while bringing in a replacement that would cost approximately 1/3 of his sale. Should be our model.

Exactly, its as if we have to do things in slow motion and selling one player would take weeks to replace. Fulham have bought and sold about 10 players today, selling one centre half and buying two centre halves could be completed in a few days
