The Scottish media love a good rumour, particularly if it can unsettle any of our players.

This pre-season was no different. With rumours flying that after one season, Juranovic would be off in a big money deal, that rumour quickly fizzled out.

Next, was Matt O’Riley.

Now added to a long line of Celtic players that our old boss Brendan Rodgers reportedly admires [Daily Record].

Don’t get me wrong, both players have the talent to play beyond the Scottish Leagues, and in O’Riley’s case, I’m sure that within the length of his contract we will have offers for him that will far exceed the £1.5 million we paid for him.

But why would he leave now? Why Leicester?

At Celtic, we are a team on the move, with a quality manager that O’Riley can learn and improve from.

For once we seem to be intent on keeping our best players and building something special, which can hit greater heights not just domestically but also in Europe.

With the Champions League group stage to strut on it seems the wrong time for O’Riley to depart.

The second part is why would he go to Leicester?

We know first-hand they have a quality coach, but they are a team on the decline.

Selling their best players and dropping down the league. If O’Riley really has ambitions to play at the top, he would be best served to stay at Celtic, becoming part of a dominant Celtic side advancing in Europe and really making a name for himself.
