Both teams had a player sent-off as Scottish Premiership leaders Celtic accounted for third-placed Aberdeen 2-0 at Pittodrie.

Moussa Dembele headed in at the far post from James Forrest’s cross to earn them an interval advantage.

But defender Mikael Lustig picked up a second yellow card and was dismissed with fourteen minutes remaining.

However, fellow full-back Kieran Tierney still added a second goal before home substitute Sam Cosgrove was sent-off for a bad late challenge.

Lustig headed wide at an early corner for the visitors, while Kenny McLean delivered dangerously towards the other end and Anthony O’Connor also threatened.

Stevie May then almost got on the end of another McLean cross, with on loan Dons keeper Freddie Woodman denying both Scott Sinclair and Dembele before Olivier Ntcham also went close.

But it was Forrest crucially supplying Dembele to head past Woodman inside the final ten minutes of the opening half.

Aberdeen looked to recover into the second period with McLean and Niall McGinn having shots blocked and Lustig clearing off the line from O’Connor.

The already cautioned Swede was then dismissed for fouling ex-Celtic winger Gary Mackay-Steven, although Dembele soon broke and allowed Tierney to lash a decisive second goal inside the near post.

Home debutant Cosgrove was also given his marching orders for a high challenge on skipper Scott Brown.
