Celtic made it a century of major trophies with a 3-0 victory against Aberdeen in the Scottish League Cup Final at Hampden Park.

The Hoops never looked back after Tom Rogic’s 16th minute opener, with James Forrest adding another excellent strike ahead of the interval and Moussa Dembele converting a second-half penalty.

Leading goalscorer Dembele’s header from Emilio Izaguirre’s cross produced an early Joe Lewis save and Rogic lifted the rebound over.

But it was Rogic delivering a clinical left-footed finish to earn his side the advantage on sixteen minutes after Jozo Simunovic had strode through the middle.

Craig Gordon parried an Andrew Considine header at the other end before Forrest, who’d already shot narrowly wide from the edge of the area, received Rogic’s pass and raced onwards before drilling beyond Lewis and extending the lead.

Adam Rooney and Kenny McLean were both wide in reply, until Anthony O’Connor fouled Forrest inside the area following another Forrest assist, with Dembele wrong-footing the keeper from his 64th minute penalty.

Celtic could have had more as Stuart Armstrong later dragged an opportunity wide from more good work by Forrest before manager Brendan Rodgers was able to celebrate receiving his first trophy.
