After last night it’s clear we can’t say goodbye to Celtic star despite fresh development

Celtic captain Scott Brown

Celtic captain Scott Brown is set to be offered a three-year contract by Australian side Western Melbourne next week, according to The Daily Record.

There’s been plenty of speculation about this potential deal in recent days, weeks and months but to date the midfielder has not yet received a firm offer, something which is about to change according to the paper.

They reckon that while Brown has been in discussions with Celtic Chief Executive Peter Lawwell, he’s been waiting on the situation in Australia developing, with Western Melbourne only receiving their licence to take part in the A-League this week.

Despite the reports though, it’s clear that Celtic simply can’t let Scott Brown leave anytime soon.

We lack depth in the middle of the park as it is and with the potentially long-term injury sustained by Ryan Christie, it’s now more than ever we should be going all out to keep him at the club.

His presence in the second half also notably improved Celtic’s chances in the match against Salzburg, even if we eventually lost 2-1. The veteran galvanised the team, the crowd and provided a battling performance that brought us closer to the Austrians.

Losing that leadership is pretty much unthinkable in my eyes and I find it staggering we have let this situation rumble on for as long as it has. We have enough contract problems in the side to be letting our most reliable player negotiate with clubs around the world.

Hopefully all of this will be sorted out as soon as possible. The A-League outfit seem pretty serious about securing his future and it’s a situation to certainly keep an eye on.
