This was a story, I think, that shocked a lot of people.

The much maligned first team coach, Gavin Strachan, was touted to be the favourite for the Hartlepool top job as the bookies installed the Hoops coach as favourite for the position.

Strachan is a former Hartlepool player and between 2003-2007, made 78 appearances for the club.

As a coach, Strachan was youth team coach for Peterborough United in 2011 and was quickly promoted to the first team set up.

In 2015, Strachan landed his first top job as manager of Ilkeston, but then quickly moved onto Doncaster Rovers where he was appointed Assistant Manager to Darren Ferguson in October of the same year.

Four years later, he then followed Ferguson with a return to Peterborough United, again as Assistant, before making the switch to Paradise in 2020 under Neil Lennon as first team coach.

Strachan seemed to be in contention for the Hartlepool job as he was quickly installed as the 1/4 favourite after Dave Challinor took up the opportunity to manage Stockport County.

But Nixon gave a twitter update late last night and confirmed that the Hoops first team coach has knocked back the opportunity to become the main man in the dugout and opted to stay at Celtic Park:

So it seems that no matter what the Celtic fans opinion of Strachan, and there are many, it looks like he will be staying at Celtic Park for the foreseeable future.
