Just over a week ago Vital Celtic wrote about Irish international midfielder Jamie McGrath being linked with a possible move to Paradise.

St Mirren sensation, Jamie McGrath, was mooted as a possible solution to the Hoops midfield woes as Celtic struggled to find the right combination in the middle of the park due to their injury crisis.

When captain Callum McGregor was out injured, playing Tom Rogic and  David Turnbull upset the balance of the team and with James McCarthy not up to full match fitness and Ismaila Soro falling further from Ange Postecoglou‘s pecking order, the Hoops were urged to sign McGrath as a no risk, high reward solution to their problem.

With the 25 year old’s contract due to expire in May, Celtic could pick up the Republic of Ireland midfielder for a modest fee.

But it seems that if the Parkhead club did make a move, they not only have to contend with St Mirren’s ‘incredible’ contract offer but also competition for his signature from other major clubs as The Buddies gaffer confirmed there is interest from elsewhere.

Speaking to The Daily Record, Jim Goodwin said, “No disrespect to the clubs involved in the summer, but I believe come January there’ll probably be another six or seven really big clubs interested.

“We’ve made an incredible offer to Jamie, we need to make that clear. We’ve made him an offer we’ve never made a player in the history of the club.

“But we’re not stupid. We know he’s going to have numerous other offers and no doubt someone might come in and blow us out of the water.

“We want Jamie to know exactly what we think of him and reward him with a great contract. Whether he takes it or not, it’s up to him but our supporters need to know we’re not giving up hope just yet.”

So if there is interest from Paradise, it does seem a move will need to be made, and quickly, if they have ambitions of tempting McGrath to the east end of Glasgow.
