With all the speculation on  the next Celtic manager, a new name has suddenly entered the running for the bookies as the talk of Eddie Howe for Paradise goes cold.

According to Oddschecker, Howe is still the favourite to be unveiled at 4/9 closely followed by familiar names such as Lucien Favre, Roy Keane and Enzo Maresca but one named has quietly slipped in like a silent assassin.

Former assistant to the legendary Sir Alex Ferguson, Carlos Quieroz, has fired into the top ten favourites of the bookies to take over from Neil Lennon as the next permanent Hoops boss.

Sitting proudly at 12/1, Quieroz is level with current temporary boss John Kennedy.  Quieroz, former manager of Real Madrid, has been out of work since December 2020 when he was sacked by the Colombian Football Federation after a disastrous 2022 World Cup Qualifying campaign.

Should Leigh Griffiths get another year at Celtic?

YES

NO

NO

However, his coaching career has been a rollercoaster and after a successful deputation under Alex Ferguson at Manchester United, Quieroz took over a Real Madrid side that had the likes of Figo, Zidane and Ronaldo.

After a great start at the Galactico’s, winning the Supercopa de Espana, and leading the Spanish giants to first place in La Liga in his first season, his side capitulated after losing his final five games and finished fourth, crowning Valencia as champions in 2004. Quieroz was eventually sacked after just 10 months and rejoined Manchester United as Ferguson number 2.

Quieroz has also enjoyed further spells as an international manager with Portugal and Iran. The Portugese took Iran to the 2018 World Cup and the semi finals of the 2019 Asian Cup and only managed to take Portugal to the second round knock out phase of the 2010 World Cup

A mixed bag of success and failures, with most success coming as Ferguson’s number 2 leads me to think whether or not Quieroz would be able to cope with the demands of Celtic and the massive expectations of their fan base.
