It seems Celtic’s search for a goalkeeper is almost at an end with Australian sports site Ftbl reporting that the Hoops are preparing a £3m bid for Australian international Mat Ryan.

Ryan has been on the radar of Ange Postecoglou as he looks to strengthen the goalkeeping department as current £5m keeper Vasilis Barkas has been found wanting as Celtic’s No1 choice between the sticks.

Ryan has been top of Postecoglou’s shopping list and it seems with Arsenal’s interest in the Aussie cooling off as they turn their attentions elsewhere, Celtic seem to be in the driving seat and £3m could be the price to get the deal over the line.

According to Celtic news site, Born Celtic, the signing is also popular amongst popular podcasters The Celtic Exchange, as they likened Ryan, incredibly, to fans favourite Fraser Forster,  ““I would be delighted with that as a signing. Put it this way, we would have been in a much better place if Mat Ryan was the Celtic goalkeeper last season.

“I would say he’s in an similar bracket in terms of where his career is at like Forster. It would be coming up and playing regularly that would be the attraction coming up to Celtic to play for a coach that he knows.”

Ryan comes with a wealth of international experience and with the goalkeeping position a clear problem area for the Parkhead side last season, Postecoglou would do well to secure the services of Ryan as they bid to claim the Scottish title back from their rivals across the water.
