It’s been a fantastic January so far for Celtic, with the Hoops able to bring in a couple of players. It seems as though Brendan Rodgers has been able to land most of his targets thus far, and that’s great news for the Bhoys.

However, it appears as though one of their targets won’t be moving to Celtic Park. Earlier this week, Celtic were linked with a move for Man Utd man Scott McTominay, as per Sky Sports.

That said, Man Utd boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has now played down any prospect of him leaving, owing to issues within his playing squad.

Sky Sports report that he said: “Scott is working hard. He is a young boy I believe in. We are working on his contract. You know with injuries, with Fellaini as well and the squad we have, I am not too sure we are going to see any [outgoing transfer] movement at all”.

Clearly, then, perhaps it’s time for Celtic to start looking for alternatives. Man Utd have a lot of games on the horizon, and so it won’t be easy for them to move a player like Scott McTominay on, given how involved he was under Jose Mourinho.

Their new manager doesn’t seem to be as much of a fan, but the midfielder clearly still has a role to play.

Fortunately for us, the midfield isn’t a major area of concern, and so not getting him isn’t the end of the world. Still, it would have been good to have a player of his quality.
