Many people would think that Celtic have had a fairly successful transfer window.

Getting good money for Kristoffer Ajer, Odsonne Edouard and Ryan Christie who were all in the last year of their contracts, alongside bringing in Japan and Holland’s top goal scorers in Furuhashi and Giakoumakis.

Adding some much needed experience in James McCarthy and Joe Hart, on the face of it, looks like a very good first window for Ange Postecoglou.

And I haven’t even got to Jota, Juranovic and Abada.

Whilst over on the other side of the city, they have shelled out no money for any players of note, relying on free transfers and not selling any of their assets as their own board have suggested they must do, the window for Rangers in my opinion, has been pretty underwhelming.

Not so says Barry Ferguson. Speaking on Go Radio, Ferguson made a strange claim as he compared both teams business this summer that suggest his glasses are either tinted blue, or he is green with envy, “I think he’s been a positive transfer window. He’s (Gerrard) done his business early and the key thing for me was, he kept the big players.

“I’m sure there would have been a lot of teams sniffing around about Kent, Morelos, Kamara, Barisic. Those five players I’ve just mentioned are big players for Rangers.

“And so I think it’s been a real positive window for them.

“I think in terms of Rangers, what they have done is  this group of players have been together a long time. And the flip side of that is Celtic have been brought in twelve players?

“It takes time for people to get used to their surroundings used to the way that the new managers playing.

“So I think Rangers on the driving seat in terms of the transfer window.”

So Rangers have managed to “keep” their best players and sign a few free contracts. Hardly a ground breaking window.

Apart from Nathan Patterson, I can’t recall a bid of any note being made for any of their top players.

It’s one thing lauding the club if they knock back good money to keep their players but it is disingenuous to make that claim if no bids were forth coming.
