Bayern Munich were always comfortably in charge of their Champions League Group B encounter with Celtic at the Allianz Arena.

Thomas Muller gave them an early advantage that was improved by Joshua Kimmich with the half-hour mark approaching.

Defender Mats Hummels then headed a third goal early in the second period to complete a straightforward victory, despite Scott Sinclair’s late reply being disallowed for offside.

Robert Lewandowski soon allowed Thiago Alcantara to find the visitors’ net, although the ball was adjudged to have already gone out of play.

Celtic defender Mikael Lusting next clearly pulled back Lewandowski inside his own area, but the emergency centre-back escaped punishment.

However, Bayern still went in front when Craig Gordon initially denied the unmarked Lewandowski’s header and Muller returned the ball high into the net.

The pacy Kingsley Coman then supplied Kimmich to head a second goal into the far corner, before Polish striker Lewandowski was soon foiled by Gordon.

And six minutes after the break, Arjen Robben’s corner was decisively headed in by Hummels to again increase the home supremacy.

Robben also saw a subsequent effort cleared off the line by Cristian Gamboa, while Lewandowski had a steered close-range volley ruled out for offside.

The Hoops weren’t creating much at the other end, until Kieran Tierney’s fierce rising drive was turned onto the outside of a post by goalkeeper Sven Ulreich.

Substitute James Forrest’s terrific solo burst also forced a sharp block from Ulreich, while Sinclair rounded off an impressive move with a curled finish into the net – but was marginally offside.

Celtic keeper Gordon was, though, still required to thwart both Muller and Robben as the visitors avoided further damage.
