The racist abuse Kyogo Furuhashi has endured this week is a shameful stain on the Rangers support.

In Scotland, we like to think of ourselves as a welcoming and diverse country but so far the events of this week has cast serious doubts over that notion because of the actions of some Rangers fans.

As the Ibrox club released a statement as they moved quickly to investigate the video, they should clearly be commended for their actions, “RANGERS can confirm that an investigation is now complete in regard to a video circulating on social media yesterday.

“The individuals involved have been identified and will be banned indefinitely from all Rangers games.

“Furthermore, the RSC of which they were members and travelled with to the game, have been banned from receiving tickets for future fixtures.”

However, BBC Sportsound released a tweet today asking a question that caused quite a stir on twitter between the fans of both clubs.

At 7.33pm the Sportsound account asked, Given the abuse aimed at @CelticFC  forward Kyogo, should

@RangersFC  captain James Tavernier make a point of approaching him prior to kick off at Ibrox on Sunday? Like Scott Brown did with Glen Kamara last season.”
And the reaction was incredible. Some of the replies used choice language that I can’t post here but here a few of the replies:
Almost every reply was condemning the BBC for suggesting it from both sides and you can see why.
Scott Brown’s gesture was off the cuff and from the heart. Unexpected but a well received and appreciative gesture.  For all we know, Tavernier may have decided to reciprocate that gesture as a show of solidarity between both clubs.
And he if he does it now? It will be viewed as a media led initiative.
And if he doesn’t? He will be judged for not caring enough. I have sympathy for Tavernier in this as he is damned if he does and damned if he doesn’t.
