Celtic fans appear to be not very impressed with reports last week that suggested Jozo Simunovic is a target of French club Lille during this summer’s transfer window.

The Daily Mail reported that the Ligue 1 were set to launch a £5m bid to bring him to France, with his first team opportunities at the Hoops drying up in recent months.

Simunovic had at one time been a trusted member of Brendan Rodgers’s starting line-up, but made just one start after being sent off in a 3-2 win at Ibrox in March.

Fitness issues have also played their part in his lack of progress in the heart of the Celtic defence, missing matches from September to November of last year.

Still, on his day he is undoubtedly one of the best natural defenders at the club, which is clearly why supporters aren’t exactly excited to let him leave this summer.

In a poll we published earlier this week, a 57% majority voted against selling him for the reported £5m.

It’s clear though that this season could be a make-or-break one for the defender. A sizeable percentage are in favour of such a move, so he certainly has his critics.

Can he get back to the form of the Invincibles season that made him a cult hero with supporters?
