Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has had plenty to say over the last week, specifically around the club’s lack of activity in the transfer market, but none of it suggests he is set for a Hoops exit this season.

The Daily Record are posing a fairly ludicrous question to their writers this morning – does Rodgers’ comments mean it is the beginning of the end for the 45-year-old at Celtic Park?

Predictably Keith Jackson and Gordon Parks are ramping up the pressure with the suggestion that a UEFA Champions League exit on Tuesday night could lead to him considering his future at the club or put further strain on his job.

Anyone who’s paid close attention to Rodgers’ comments, beyond the headlines of ultimatums and hysterical drama, knows that leaving is the furthest thing from his mind right now.

He simply wants the club to keep pace with its own ambitions, and that means ensuring the quality of the squad is at least as high as the season before.

The manager has never suggested that the Celtic board are working against his interests or the interests of the club, he understands the limitations of the transfer market.

The fact he is speaking so passionately and at length about transfer and his squad is because he deeply cares about the future of the football club. He didn’t sign a lengthy contract for nothing.

Nobody has particularly enjoyed Rodgers offering some home truths about the failure to sign club targets this summer, but what he said needed to be said, for supporters, for the board and for the manager himself.

It may appear unseemly to outsiders and as if the ‘cracks are showing’ to others, but most supporters recognise that not every negative discussion spells disaster.

Sometimes debates need to be had and views need to be aired in order for progress to be made and, to me at least, that was what Brendan Rodgers was going for last week. He wasn’t enacting an exit strategy.

How do you feel about Brendan Rodgers’ comments now everyone’s had a few days to consider the situation? Leave your thoughts below…
