The boy hardly got a sniff. Brought in for £2m and  practically snubbed by the then boss, Brendan Rodgers, Marian Shved is apparently in line for a Parkhead life line as the young Ukrainian winger looks to resurrect his Celtic career.

Shved arrived at Celtic Park with an exciting reputation as a skilful wide man that looks to play exciting and attacking football but his career at the Hoops was almost over, before it even started, when Rodgers exclaimed at “that” infamous press conference that the squad “had a million wingers“.

Shved was farmed out on loan even although he scored on his debut in a Champions League third round qualifier against Nomme Kalju. His destination was Mechelen in the Belgian Juliper League.

Should Marian Shved get another chance at Celtic?

YES

YES

NO

NO

The young Ukrainian winger didn’t get off to the best of starts but after a heart to heart with the Mechelen manager, he turned his fortunes around and declared he regretted his decision to sign for the then Scottish champions, They (Genk) even made a higher offer than Celtic. But after consultation with my brokers [agent], we ultimately opted for Celtic.

“In retrospect, that may not have been the right choice. If I knew what I know now, I might have chosen the Belgian league and signed with Genk.”

But reports from Belgian media outlet Voetbalkrant suggests that Shved is still wanted by boss Ange Postecoglou but still hold out hope of yet another loan deal if Postecoglou doesn’t fancy the tricky wide man.

Shved seems suited to the big Australians style of attacking football and could this could end up being Postecoglou’s first masterstroke as Celtic boss!
