Georgios Samaras has announced his retirement from football today after a fine career for several clubs and the Greek national team.
Arguably, he enjoyed his best playing days at our club as he notched 74 goals and 4 league titles in over 200 appearances in the famous green and white.
Certainly, he established himself as a cult hero with his appearance and playing style whilst he had a decent knack of scoring some big goals.
The Bhoys then have paid tribute to that on Instagram with this class image:

The Greek had a habit of getting important goals at late moments and then going absolutely nuts – as this image highlights.
He wasn’t the most prolific forward but he did get a decent return for the club when, really, he wasn’t our out-and-out forward in all fairness.
He’s no doubt off to enjoy a fine retirement, then, and hopefully we’ll see him back at Celtic Park sooner rather than later as a fan.
