As Celtic are seemingly beginning the hunt for a new CEO (well, I assume a hunt is on considering Michael Nicholson is in temporary charge), a name was reported today by The Daily Record

that could step in and take over the Celtic CEO role from Dominic McKay.

The Scottish newspaper listed five names that they feel would be an ideal candidate to pick up the pieces of the Dom McKay era and one that has caught the eye is Susan Whelan, the current CEO and boss of former Celtic gaffer Brendan Rodgers.

Whelan is the current CEO of English Premier League side Leicester City. The Irish born boss has been at The King Power Stadium since 2010 and was said to be a massive off field influence in helping The Foxes win the Premier League.

The report claims Rodgers speaks very highly of Whelan and branded the leadership and running of the business as ‘excellent’,  “From Top (chairman Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha) to Susan, in her role in terms of balancing everything between the financial side and the running of the actual business, to Jon on the football element, it’s been excellent.”

With McKay citing ‘personal reasons’ for leaving the post, there has been murmurings and rumours that he was pushed for various reasons. But one rumour that does crop up is the Celtic board’s resistance to change.

So where Whelan, who seems like a forward thinking modern CEO, would fit amongst the Parkhead power seats is baffling.

No doubt we will find out very soon who the successor to McKay will be but it needs to be quicker than it took the club to source a new manager in order to bring some much needed stability behind the scenes at Paradise.
