Brendan Rodgers’ Champions League problem

Whilst it’s always nice to see our club represented at the World Cup, it has given Brendan Rodgers a bit of a problem ahead of the Champions League qualifiers – as the Daily Record reports.

Mikael Lustig, Tom Rogic and Cristian Gamboa were all set to go to Russia anyway and now it’s been confirmed most recently that Dedryck Boyata is heading to the tournament too.

Congratulations to all four of them are in order, then, but it also means for the qualifying stages in Europe next month we might be without some key men.

The first tie for the Champions League falls in mid-July – around the semi-final stage of the tournament and Boyata and Belgium could be involved in particular.

Even if no-one is at that stage, too, they may be fatigued and so Brendan will have to think of a way around it all.

The Verdict

This is certainly a nuisance but one we should really get around.

If we fall at the first hurdle it won’t be because we’re missing these players – something drastic will have happened – and so hopefully things will pass smoothly enough.
