Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers believes Scott Brown is fully focused on life at the Hoops right now despite rumours that he could be set for a move to Australia.

Brown was linked with a move to Western Melbourne earlier this week, even though they haven’t yet achieved A-League status.

The report from The Daily Mail suggested they were to make a big money move to bring him across the world, with his current contract at Celtic Park expiring next summer.

Acknowledging why that might be tempting for a veteran player, Rodgers downplayed the impact it has all had on Brown, prior to yesterday’s win over Hibernian.

As quoted by BBC Scotland, the Hoops boss said:

I think at this level you take it year on year.

You can only adjudge and assess where’s he’s at now. He’s at a really good level of fitness, but of course players get to this latter part of their career. And, obviously, if there are opportunities that come to them to allow them to maximise what they can earn out of the game then they have to look at it.

That may be the case for Scott later on but at this moment in time he’s very focused on his football at Celtic. He’s enjoyed his last couple of seasons here winning but playing the game to a high level.

We’ll just concentrate on that and hopefully continue to lead this team.

Brown made his return from injury in yesterday’s match but was forced off just 20 minutes into the Scottish Premiership clash, making him a big doubt for the upcoming trip to RB Leipzig.

The captain has been our most important player over the last decade so when the time comes for him to leave it’ll be emotional and a real blow to the playing squad.

Hopefully that isn’t coming imminently.
