Former Celtic striker John Hartson reckons that Brendan Rodgers should be furious with the constant speculation surrounding his role as Hoops manager this season.

A week has barely gone by this term so far without headlines either calling into question his happiness at Celtic Park or linking him with a move away to another job.

The latest rumours this week suggested he would be heading to Aston Villa to take over from Steve Bruce, which obviously had no truth.

BT Sport pundit Hartson believes there are no signs that the former Liverpool boss wants to leave anytime soon and is fact relishing the challenge on offer to the Hoops this season.

Writing in his column for The Evening Times, he said:

If I were in his shoes I think I’d be pretty fed up with it. How many times does he have to say that he enjoys his work at Celtic, that he enjoys his life at Celtic?

He will leave one day, nothing lasts forever, but I just don’t get the vibe off Brendan that he feels as though that time is now.

For the first time since he arrived at the club there is a genuine challenge to go and win the league.

It is not as cosy and comfortable as it has been over the last two seasons and I think that is something that he relishes.

It wouldn’t be incorrect to say that Celtic have had a poor start to the season for the most part. It has been downright dramatic at times. However, the desire of some in the media for that drama to overspill into career defining decisions and season-ruining fall outs is incredibly tiresome.

Brendan Rodgers has made it quite clear that his future lies at Celtic and the rest of Scottish football will have to deal with that despite headlines clamouring for him to leave Glasgow.
