English Premier League side Bournemouth are interested in signing Celtic midfielder Callum McGregor this January, according to The Scottish Sun.

The paper say that the Cherries are looking at the in-form Scotland international as a replacement for the £18m-rated (Transfermarkt) Lewis Cook, who has been ruled out for nine months because of a ruptured ACL injury.

It was inevitable that McGregor would be linked with a move to bigger leagues given his incredible performances this season but the likelihood of him moving on as early as January seems slim at best.

The 25-year-old signed his most recent contract just over a year ago, which committed him to the club until the summer of 2021.

Many have tipped him to be a future Celtic captain and if not that, then at least replacing Scott Brown in the first-team in a playing sense. He’s certainly shown over the last couple of months he’s more than capable of that.

It all means that Bournemouth would have to stump up an incredible amount of cash to convince the club to sell and McGregor doesn’t strike me as the type of person to push for a move either.

The Cherries may be cash rich due to the TV money on offer in the English top-flight, but do they have the resources to pick up one of the Hoops’ prime assets? I doubt it.
