Celtic were handed their biggest-ever European home defeat as Paris St-Germain scored five times without reply in the Champions League Group B opener at Celtic Park.

Brazilian Neymar gave the visitors an early advantage and then set up another for Kylian Mbappe, before Edinson Cavani converted a penalty ahead of the interval.

Mikael Lustig later conceded an own-goal and Cavani headed a fifth – both inside the final ten minutes.

Frenchman Olivier Ntcham sent an early strike wide for the hosts before Neymar broke away and fired the opening goal beyond Craig Gordon.

His opposite number Alphonse Areola turned away Leigh Griffiths’ long distance reply, although Mbappe struck a second after Neymar headed back Marco Verratti’s cross.

Six minutes later Jozo Simunovic fouled Cavani inside the area and the Uruguayan slotted in the penalty.

Scott Sinclair produced further work for Areola but Neymar then saw a couple of missed opportunities to add to the lead following the break.

That still occurred as substitute Julian Draxler’s shot diverted into the net off Lustig before Cavani rapidly added another with a diving header two minutes later.
