Celtic dropped their first points of the season in a 1-1 draw with St Johnstone at Celtic Park.

The visitors went in front before the break when Steven MacLean took advantage of a Craig Gordon mistake.

But substitute Callum McGregor equalised with a low strike eleven minutes from time – thus making it 53 unbeaten domestic games for the champions.

Saints suffered an immediate blow after Murray Davidson was carried off following an unfortunate clash of heads with team-mate Aaron Comrie.

Leigh Griffiths could then only find the side-netting as the action resumed, before delivering a free-kick headed over by Mikael Lustig.

Goalkeeper Alan Mannus next saved from James Forrest – until his side went in front six minutes before the break when Gordon’s misplaced pass allowed substitute Liam Craig to set-up McLean.

Scott Sinclair went close to an equaliser on the stroke of half-time, while Tom Rogic also challenged the target from distance upon the restart.

Griffiths then had a free-kick opportunity but couldn’t hit the target and Mannus also tipped over from substitute Stuart Armstrong.

However, fellow replacement McGregor finally curled a 79th minute equaliser into the bottom corner, while Sinclair, Lustig and substitute Jonny Hayes later threatened to improve on it.
