Holders Celtic eased through in the Scottish Cup with a comfortable 5-0 victory against Championship strugglers Brechin City at Celtic Park.

Winger James Forrest gave them an instant lead and Scott Sinclair soon added to that following slack defensive work.

Further goals were to arrive for the dominant hosts after the break from Olivier Ntcham, Dedryck Boyata and Odsonne Edouard.

Sinclair’s cut-back on just two minutes had earlier witnessed Forrest opening the scoring while the visitors were still awaiting their first touch of the ball.

Nine minutes later the underdogs carelessly surrendered possession to Callum McGregor and Sinclair dutifully slotted in another.

Goalscorer Sinclair later glanced the outside of an upright while Ntcham also went close on a couple of separate occasions.

But the midfielder then headed a third goal from Mikael Lustig’s early second-half delivery – and defender Boyata soon improved upon that when nodding in at a corner.

Striker Edouard later went on to lift an opportunity over, until finding the net on the turn following Lustig advancing inside the closing minutes.
