Celtic alert as EPL side “agree” £30m defender move

|

Celtic may be open to making a move for one time defensive target Ben Davies as Liverpool finalised their £30m move for RB Leipzig stopper, Ibrahim Konate.

Vital Celtic reported back in March that The Reds were looking to bring the big Frenchman to The Kop  to bolster their back line.

At the time, Leipzig Sporting Director Markus Krosche said of the potential move, “I do not think that this is an option for Ibu. He has a long contract with us, he knows what he means to us and what we mean to him.

“He was unlucky last season with a long injury, but this year, he is developing well and is an extremely important player with a lot of potential.

“We want to help him to develop further and we have a very good team, so I don’t see a reason why he would leave us.”

Jurgen Klopp’s side have suffered horrendous injury set backs after losing Dutchman Virgil van Djik and Englishman Joe Gomez to long term knee injuries which forced a move for Celtic target Ben Davies in the winter window as emergency cover for the remainder of the season.

Davies has yet to make a single appearance for Liverpool and the news that the  Konate deal is all but over the line only pushes the former Preston man further into the shadows.

Today Sky Sports insider Fabrizio Romano revealed on Twitter that terms have been agreed between between the club and player.

This could spell the end for Davies and open the door for the Hoops to return to prise their January target away from Merseyside.
