Remember last season when Celtic thought they were signing Preston defender Ben Davies?

Do you also remember the reason why Davies eventually never signed for the Hoops?

Vital Celtic covered it last summer when Antony Joseph revealed the astounding reason Davies never donned the Hoops, We were very close to all sides of that story. Player side, Celtic and Preston, and if you knew the people telling us it was done, you would understand why we put that it out it was done. It looked to me that the player had agreed the contract. He’d agreed the pre contract, but he hadn’t signed it that night.

“The next morning he’s woken up and other clubs in England are after him and it materialised that Liverpool were the ones who were in strong and ended up, as Neil Lennon put it, gazumping Celtic. So he HAD agreed, we were wrong with our wording that he’d signed, it wasn’t like we were jumping the gun on that, we were told that it was done.”

According to reports tonight, Liverpool are seemingly letting Davies go this summer after a full season at The Reds where he didn’t make a single appearance.

According to the Daily Record, Jürgen Klopp has decided to cut his losses with the defender and is looking to recoup the £1.6m he paid for Davies but could be looking at making a loss on the Englishman.

With Celtic still waiting to seal the deal for CCV and also still to find out the extent of Carl Starfelts injury, could Postecoglou be tempted to take a punt on Davies?

I suppose it would depend on the asking price but I would have thought that when you say no to Celtic once, you shouldn’t really get a second chance? Should you?
