Celtic winger James Forrest has shared his delight after scoring his first goals for the Scotland national team this weekend.

The Hoops stand-out netted twice in a 4-0 rout of Albania, giving Alex McLeish’s side a real chance of gaining promotion from their UEFA Nations League group.

Forrest has been sensational for Celtic over the last 18 months, but his international form has lagged behind. He finally looks ready to take the game by storm on that stage too.

The 27-year-old couldn’t be happier with how it’s going, telling The Daily Record:

Saturday was definitely up there. Scoring for Scotland in a competitive game was special. It will give me confidence that I can score more going forward.

It was a great feeling. I’ve played a few times for Scotland before and I haven’t scored. I was pleased that my goals helped us win. It was a great performance.

I was absolutely delighted. It was a great night. To win my 25th cap, score two goals and contribute to the win was amazing.

The winger will have another chance to impress on Tuesday night when Scotland host Israel in the same competition, needing a win to take a major leap forward under Alex McLeish.

With fellow Celtic stars like Callum McGregor and Ryan Christie also integral to the Tartan Army’s fortunes right now, it’d be great to see them put in another great performance.
