Celtic could have landed transfer target for £350k – he’ll now cost £5m this summer

Celtic are interested in signing Barnsley defender Liam Lindsay this summer, according to The Daily Star.

The paper say that five clubs are keen on landing the 23-year-old – Celtic, Aston Villa, Brighton, Leeds and Stoke.

Clearly he is attracting the attention of some big clubs, just two years after leaving Partick Thistle for the League One outfit.

That deal was worth just £350,000, say The Star, a budget fee that should have attracted Celtic.

The Hoops will have to shell out around £5m if they want him anytime soon given Barnsley’s valuation, according to the report.

Lindsay made the switch to Barnsley in 2017 and has gone on to play 84 times, emerging as a key player in the starting eleven and helping them push for automatic promotion back to the Championship this term.

With Celtic badly needing defensive options this summer after the likely departures of Filip Benkovic and Dedryck Boyata, Lindsay could certainly fit the bill.

He’s still young enough to improve significantly yet still has plenty of good experience under his belt with over 150 senior appearances to his name.

Can Celtic negotiate a good enough deal to bring him back to Glasgow?
