There are certain people in football that when they speak, you listen, and one of those is Celtic legend Danny McGrain.

One of Scotland’s finest ever players has reserved special praise for a current Hoops star after being impressed with Jeremie Frimpong’s impact since joining from Manchester City last summer, in an interview with The Scottish Sun.

So what has McGrain said?

When asked to reflect on the youngster’s skillset and how he has taken to life in the famous green and white shirt, he said:

“Frimpong is an excellent young player.“He’s only 19 — I can’t wait to see him play when he’s in his 20s. I’ve not seen all of his games this season. But even from last year, when he first came in, he quickly looked a player.

“The first thing that caught my eye about him was his willingness to immediately take on the player in front of him. And, of course, his pace which is excellent for somebody of his size and build.

“It’s looking very good for Frimpong and I really hope he can be at Celtic for a long time. If he isn’t at the club for a long time, then the way he’s going I’m pretty sure there will be £50m in the bank for him!

“Frimpong looks to be on the road to being an exceptionally good player — but he’s still young and has so much ahead of him.

“But all things being well, he’s going to be a top player. Frimpong is already a great prospect.”

So is McGrain correct?

On everything except maybe the transfer fee, when the Dutch youth international does eventually leave for pastures new, he is talented, but £50million might be a stretch!

Could Frimpong be worth £50m?

Yes

Yes

No

No

The only thing stopping him from being valued at that sort of figure is the league he is playing in, imagine an Under-21 star playing for a Premier League side and what their value would be nowadays – Leeds United were being being quoted £35m for Ben White who had just returned to Brighton after a decent season in the Championship.

Frimpong has every asset needed to be a top full-back and it isn’t a stretch to say that at the same age he is every bit as good as the likes of Andy Robertson and Kieran Tierney and look where they are now – it doesn’t take a footballing legend like McGrain to point out what the rest of us already know, the wee man is heading for the very top.
