Celtic defender is a doubt for Saturday’s big match against Kilmarnock

|

Celtic manager Neil Lennon has confirmed defender Kieran Tierney is doubt for this weekend’s match against Kilmarnock, having not trained this week in preparation.

Unfortunately the Celtic Park boss still does not have a time frame on his return, with the player visiting a specialist today to determine the next steps in his recovery.

The hope is he will be available for next month’s massive Scottish Cup Final against Hearts at Hampden.

Speaking in his pre-match media conference, Lennon said: “He’s seeing a specialist today, so we’ll probably know later on this evening about his prognosis. He’s not trained so he’ll be a doubt for Saturday.”

More than anything else, the priority here is clearly Tierney’s well being, with the defender already having been over relied upon this season. There are times he shouldn’t have played and has been, in the absence of real competent back-up at left-back.

His long-term health is more important than upcoming matches, even the upcoming final at Hampden and hopefully the specialist he has visited can get to the root of his ongoing fitness issues.
