Celtic transfer target Filip Benkovic made his debut for Leicester City last night, coming off the bench in a 4-0 League Cup win over Fleetwood Town.

The Croatian U21 international joined the English Premier League side a few weeks ago but prior to last night had only featured for their U23s side.

The Daily Mail reported earlier this week that Celtic were lining up a loan move for the player, but does his inclusion on Tuesday night suggest he is in the immediate plans of Claude Puel after all?

At the very least, being involved in first-team action so close to the transfer deadline isn’t an amazing sign from our perspective.

The player came off the bench in 62nd minute for Wes Morgan, making his English football debut in front of his own supporters.

As a temporary solution to our defensive crisis at the moment, we could probably do worse than Benkovic, especially at this late stage of the window, but would fans accept yet another young loan signing from the Premier League?

Hopefully by the close of play on Friday supporters are delighted with the business done by Celtic, with or without the 21-year-old.
