Celtic are set to go head-to-head with Brighton & Hove Albion for the signature of in-form attacking midfielder Nick Powell, according to The Sun.

The paper report that with his contract expiring at the end of the season, both the Hoops and the Seagulls are ready to make a January move for the player and offer a lucrative contract.

Currently rated as worth £900,000 by Transfermarkt, can Celtic pick up a potential bargain for one of the English Championship’s stand-out players right now?

The former Manchester United man was instrumental in helping Wigan gain promotion from League One last term, scoring 15 league goals and creating another seven assists.

So far this term he’s not slowed that attacking contribution down, already netting three and assisting four times in seven Championship appearances.

With Stuart Armstrong having left this summer, the Hoops are definitely needing a bit of reinforcement in the attacking midfield areas, with Ryan Christie the only real natural cover for Australian international Tom Rogic.

With Premier League sides also sniffing about the player, wages could be an issue, but this could be a brilliant chance for the Hoops to land a talented player in a market that is rapidly moving beyond them financially.
