Celtic eye up Bundesliga star with £4.3m rated international striker back on Lennon’s radar

|

Celtic have been linked with adding firepower to their already prolific forward line with the news that Union Berlin’s Sebastian Andersson is said to be on Neil Lennon’s shopping list, according to reputable German media outlet, Kicker (via tbrfootball.com).

The towering forward – rated at £4.3million –  is a Swedish international and scored 12 goals in 33 Bundesliga appearances, playing a key role in ensuring that his side remained in Germany’s top flight for another season, a decent tally in an unfancied team against a good standard of opposition.

Andersson has been on Lennon’s radar for a while with the Swede rumoured to have been scouted in December prior to the winter break only for the Hoops to opt for Patryk Klimala at a cost of £3.5m.

With the 28-year old (29 in July) said to have a release clause in the single millions, he isn’t exactly available on the cheap, however, given his experience and the level he is currently playing at, he would represent as low a risk signing as you could get.

The issue would be where he fits into Lennon’s plans with four strikers already on the payroll and with Klimala and Vakoun Issouf Bayo not long signed, whether or not the board would sanction such a big outlay for a team that comfortably won the league and were on course to break goal scoring records is up for debate.

The good news for Hoops fans is that there is a definite calibre of player that Celtic are being linked with, proven internationals with a track record of success, on top of an already dominant squad, which means that the odds of 10-in-a-row are shortening by the day.
