Celtic fans could be in for a nervous summer transfer window after former Parkhead gaffer, Brendan Rodgers, revealed the area that he is looking to upgrade in his Champions League chasing Leicester City side, as reported by The Daily Record.
Odsonne Edouard has been a rumoured target for the Premier League team since January and after Rodgers has seen his players struggle to find a cutting edge following the resumption of football, he said:
“It’s an area we’ve been looking at. If you look from last season to this season, our objective was to score more goals, and that’s what we’ve done.
“I felt we needed a certain amount of goals to challenge European football and up to now, the players have surpassed that.
“Year on year, that’s something we need to build on, having more creative options and different types of options, and that’s what we’ll look at as a club.
“Year on year, you want to keep improving and that’s something we’ll hopefully do in the summer.”
Celtic are said to be in talks with the 22-year old forward about a new deal to keep him at the club – at least for the upcoming season – and to fend off interest from the likes of the Midlands outfit.
The biggest issues facing the Hoops board are if Leicester manage to hold on to automatic Champions League qualification and their ability to already – at least – treble Edouard’s basic wage, it would be hard to stop the Frenchman’s head from being turned.
The loss of Edouard wouldn’t be catastrophic but it would certainly be a blow given his importance to Neil Lennon over the last couple of seasons, and it will take all of his powers of persuasion to prevent him from deciding that the grass is indeed greener south of the border.
