Former Rangers midfielder and BT pundit, Alex Rae, stoked controversy yesterday by dismissing one Hoops fan’s claim that Jeremie Frimpong is already a better right-back than James Tavernier despite making just ten first-team appearances.

Rae, backed up his opinion by saying that the Gers skipper has “been doing it for years” on the Ladbrokes Social Club (via The Scottish Sun) rather than offering an objective comparison between the two defenders.

Frimpong has made an immediate impact for the Bhoys in his debut season since signing for ÂŁ350k from Manchester City in the summer and is already making that figure look like a bargain with 2 goals and 2 assists in 7 league games alone.

Tavernier can boast 3 goals and 6 assists to his name in 13 league appearances but has come under fire this season for a series of high profile blunders and penalty misses.

These Celtic fans took to Twitter to respond to Rae reminding him of which full-back was the one with the silverware in their trophy cabinet.

Frimpong may only have played ten games in the famous green and white hoops but it has been enough for his skipper, Scott Brown, to back the youngster to put Kieran Tierney’s Scottish transfer record under threat, high praise indeed.
