Celtic fans react to Sky Sports man’s ‘disrespectful’ Celtic fans tweet. The poppy debate rages on

Today should have been all about the football.

Today should have been all about chance to get within a point of Rangers to put pressure on them at the top of the league.

And it did start off that way but as always, the minute’s silence for Rememberance Sunday is always a contentious one for the Celtic support.

As we all know, a large portion of the fanbase do not agree in part with what the poppy stands for.

You don’t me to explain it as it has been well documented in the past but as the minutes silence didn’t pass without incident, Sky Sports journalist, Anthony Joseph put a tweet out expressing his disappointment at not only the Celtic fans, but also the Dundee fans apparent booing of taking the knee.

Joseph said,  “Some Celtic fans disrespecting the minute’s silence (which is very different to the poppy debate btw) and some Dundee fans booing the players taking a knee. A very embarrassing start to this game. “

It did raise a few eyebrows amongst the Celtic supporters and many questioned the reporter on why the freedom of choice seems to be a one way street when it comes to this issue”

@slimshady1960: “The question remains why football has been singled out to have poppy fascism foisted upon it these past 15 years. Nothing at rugby union or rugby league or last night’s boxing, or the cricket or tennis over the weekend….just football… 🤔

@JohnPaulConner3: “If you don’t agree with that, that’s fine. I get those who think that. But whilst your there, just respect it. If you want to keep it outside of football, protest against it outside of the minute silence. It’s not re are over half a million other minutes every year to protest.”

@jcaden89: “Other than embarrassing the club and the country.  Same every year. If they don’t want to respect the minutes silence stay outside until its over”

Following the thread and you will see various different stand points on this issue but one thing is for certain, as long as politics are allowed to mix in football, this issue will never go away
