The Giorgos Giakoumakis ‘penalty’ claim has certainly set social media alight over the weekend.

As reporters and pundits quickly made the mad dash to tell us all we can stop being paranoid about the refereeing decisions that go against our club, or more specifically, the VAR ones, Tam McManus took to Twitter to have a bizarre rant about how Kilmarnock were not awarded a last-minute penalty against us.

I explained in the piece linked above why I thought it wasn’t a penalty. The Kilmarnock forward backed into an oncoming Giakoumakis and, to me, it looked like a simple coming together.

McManus clearly didn’t think so and he continued his rant with a bizarre attack on the Celtic fans.

Taking to Twitter, commneting on a video of the Kilmarnock penalty claim, McManus continued, “PS if this was at the other end be like Armageddon on social media!!!

“Kilmarnock like St Mirren last night have been done by a horrendous decision.

“Just because it’s two smaller clubs doesn’t make it any less newsworthy. Shocking.”

Very, very strange.

We have been at the wrong end of shocking refereeing decisions all season and I have seen no hint of the ‘Armageddon’ that McManus is alluding to here.

I have seen Celtic fans highlight the dubious nature of these decisions so McManus needs to calm down here a wee bit.

It does seem like a strange stance to take.

It makes you wonder why a former Hibs man took aim at our support like that?

Who are Celtic’s most capped players from these countries?

Aye just like the thug that is kent getting away with punching in a ball game and not so much as a review of it, he also pulled an Aberdeen player shirt, 9 out of 10 are given a yellow oh no not him. Oh wait we are paranoid.

Due to his poor quality so-called “journalism” McManus has never really been able to gain the respect of any fans ofany club. He has tried to make himself heard by fans of Scotland’s you gest senior club, but even they ignore his stupidity.
The fact is however, it should have been a penalty, even though this column tried to justify the ref’s refusal to entertain it.
It was 100% a penalty. But as far as Celtic fans “lighting up social media” had it been ours, the fact remains that we have suffered more than any three clubs combined since the introduction of V(ideo) A(ssisting) R(angers).
We would just have shrugged our shoulders and thought, “there’s another one to add to the list”.
After all, there has never been a club apart from us who was already used to bigotry in every disgraceful “honest mistake”.
We are used to it all and have been for over 100 years.
This new toy only gives refs another out.
This is why reports from people like McManus aren’t given any credence.
