Celtic Gain CL Bonus As Top Spot Is Owned In Fine Fashion

|

Having already qualified through to the Round of 32 in the Europa League, Celtic were targeting the honour of being crowned as Group E winners as we went into tonight’s clash with Rennes at Celtic Park.

Victory tonight, allied to Cluj being defeated by Lazio, would see us top the group and avoid the Champions League dropouts in the next round and we headed into the game in good confidence.

Our hopes were certainly boosted when Lewis Morgan opened the scoring 21 minutes into the game and the night got a little bit better as Ryan Christie made it 2-0 on the stroke of half time. The second half wasn’t as exciting on the goalscoring front, but fans saw two more efforts – Mikey Johnston made it 3-0 in the 74th minute, but the visitors did get a consolation a minute before the end of regulation time.

3-1 was how it ended and Lazio winning 1-0, top spot is ours as the cherry on the progression cake and we have a game to spare so can do it in even more style.
