RB Leipzig winger Emil Forsberg has been ruled out of Thursday’s clash against Celtic in the UEFA Europa League group stages, as reported by The Scottish Sun.

The paper say that the attacker missed out on the German side’s 0-0 draw away to Augsburg yesterday and is expected to be missing for three weeks, handing the Hoops something of a boost ahead of the difficult fixture.

Rated at £22.5m by Transfermarkt, Forsberg has been in decent form for the Bundesliga outfit so far this term, scoring three goals and assists three more in 12 appearances.

He plays primarily on the left flank and could have caused serious problems on the right side of the Celtic defensive line, which is unarguably the weakest area in Brendan Rodgers’ team.

Undoubtedly the Germans will have significant talents ready to step into his boots, but one of their big players being ruled out can only be a benefit.

Any sort of positive result on Thursday evening would be a massive boost to Celtic’s Europa League campaign. Even a draw would set us up nicely for home matches to come in the competition.
