Celtic are still interested in bringing Wigan Athletic’s attacking midfielder Nick Powell to Celtic Park this summer, according to website TEAMtalk.

Powell was linked with a move to Glasgow back in the January transfer window, with The Scottish Sun reporting that both the Hoops and Rangers wanted to sign him.

His contract at the English Championship club expires at the end of the season and he’s expected to leave for another club.

TEAMtalk say that a number of clubs are interested in his signature, including many foreign sides, but that Celtic do hold an advantage over German and Turkish suitors – the player wants to stay in the UK.

The recruitment team at the Hoops will still have to fend off English interest in the £3.15m-rated player (Transfermarkt), according to the outlet.

A player capable of playing the role currently performed by Tom Rogic or Ryan Christie in the first-team, he could be an exciting acquisition this summer as we look to freshen up the squad ahead of a nine-in-a-row push.

He has seven goals and seven assists in the English second-tier this term, following on from a impressive season in League One last year, when he scored 15 and assisted seven as a key member of a promoted Wigan side.

One to watch over the coming weeks and months.
