Celtic are interested in signing Fulham youngster Matt O’Riley, as reported by Sky Sports.

The Hoops have already brought in Timothy Weah, Oliver Burke and Vakoun Issouf Bayo into the club this month, all players being young prospects that will be competing for first-team places in the second half of the season.

In defence and central midfield though, Brendan Rodgers has yet to strengthen.

O’Riley is a central midfield prospect capped at youth levels for England and thought to have a bright future in the game.

Sky Sports report that not only are Celtic and Rangers keen on signing him this January, a number of Bundesliga sides are also tracking his progress after the impact of Jadon Sancho at Borussia Dortmund this season.

O’Riley likely wouldn’t be a signing that would immediately be considered for first-team action at Celtic but offering the chance of senior action at quicker pace than the English Premier League side could convince him to make a move to Glasgow.

With Olivier Ntcham’s long-term future at the club uncertain and Scott Brown potentially leaving this summer too, bringing in more cover in the heart of midfield isn’t the worst idea in the world.
