Having been appointed as new Celtic manager, Ronny Deila will now target keeping the likes of Fraser Forster and Virgil van Dijk at the club.

“I hope those two stay and be a part of the team” – Ronny Deila

Forster is part of the England World Cup squad in Brazil after proving himself such a capable goalkeeper during the Hoops’ Champions League exploits. At the same time Dutchman Van Dijk was excelling directly in front of him.

“We want to have good players here,” Deila told BBC Scotland. “I hope those two stay and be a part of the team this year so we can do very good things.”

However, Deila revealed he remained unconcerned at the prospect of other clubs chasing his leading players.

“It is not a fear,” he added. “It is football. We have to be ahead all the time. We always have to be one step in front.”

Celtic kick-off their next campaign in mid-July with a Champions League qualifier against as yet unconfirmed opponents.
